Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan to address a wide range of complex emotional and behavioral challenges. It is particularly effective for individuals who struggle with emotional regulation.
People who have difficulty regulating their emotions often see the world in extremes: black and white, good and bad, worthy and unworthy. As a result, they may experience intense anxiety, sadness, suffering, and difficulties in relationships. DBT helps individuals find a balanced, middle path in their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships, making it easier to navigate life’s challenges.
DBT is highly effective for those dealing with intense emotions, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, eating disorders, addictions, shame, anger, and relationship difficulties. However, you don’t need to struggle with these issues to benefit from DBT. The skills it teaches, such as mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness, can be valuable for anyone seeking to improve their emotional well-being and resilience.
At Heartful Mental Health, we offer DBT groups for both adults and teens, as well as individual DBT therapy, providing a structured and supportive environment to learn and apply these life-changing skills.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a short-term, goal-oriented form of psychotherapy designed to help individuals identify and change patterns of thinking and behavior that contribute to life challenges. Because our thoughts, feelings, and actions are deeply interconnected, shifting these patterns can lead to meaningful and lasting change. CBT is highly effective in reducing anxiety and depression, empowering individuals to manage stress and improve overall well-being.
At Heartful Mental Health, we offer Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Habit Reversal Training (HRT) for body-focused repetitive behaviors such as trichotillomania (hair pulling) and skin picking. These evidence-based approaches help individuals break free from unhelpful cycles and regain control over their lives.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps individuals heal from PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other distressing life experiences. This highly effective approach guides clients to briefly focus on traumatic memories while simultaneously engaging in bilateral stimulation, typically through guided eye movements. This process helps reduce the emotional intensity and distress associated with traumatic memories, allowing for healthier processing and long-term healing.
Young Adult and Adult Therapy
At Heartful Mental Health, we offer therapy for young adults and adults who are navigating life’s challenges, feeling stuck, or struggling with anxiety or past trauma. Whether you’re facing a major life decision such as career changes, dating, marriage, or relationships, or simply seeking clarity and growth, we’re here to help. Our goal is to support you through life’s transitions, provide guidance for the obstacles that arise, and empower you to become the best version of yourself.
Individual Therapy for Children and Adolescents
At Heartful Mental Health, we provide individual therapy for children struggling with anxiety, helping them develop essential coping skills through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Our approach is tailored to each child’s needs, equipping them with tools to manage their worries, build confidence, and navigate challenges in a supportive environment.
We also work with adolescents, integrating both CBT and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to support those dealing with anxiety, depression, social difficulties, and emotional regulation challenges. By teaching practical strategies, we help teens build resilience, improve relationships, and gain the skills they need to thrive.
